Admissions Information

Parents are encouraged to review the web site for information about our school, jotting down any questions that may pertain to the prospective student.  Call Glenforest School at 803-796-7622, or toll-free 1-800-849-7312, to discuss your questions with Edith Bailey in Admissions.  A tour of the school and an opportunity to discuss your child’s needs in depth can be arranged at that time.  If you choose to apply, the process will include:

  1. Submit pre-admission forms with $150 application fee.  Be sure to include:
    • current (within two years) Psycho Educational evaluation(s)
    • reports from speech or other auxiliary services, if relevant
    • work samples
    • names and numbers of three references who have worked with your child in a professional capacity.  These should include at least one classroom teacher and one person who have worked with your child in a smaller group or individual setting.  It will be necessary to give each reference written permission to talk about your child with us by phone.
    • Current IEP (Individualized Educational Program), if relevant
  2. Admissions committee will review your child’s file to assess if your student’s academic needs may be met by our program.
  3. You will be contacted by letter as to whether our program may be a good placement for your child.
  4. If our program may meet your child’s needs, your child will be invited to visit and spend a day or more visiting at our school.  This allows your child a chance to experience Glenforest.  It allows us to see if we have an opening in a group that will be an appropriate peer group for your child.  Glenforest is a small school.  At times, we are able to meet a child’s academic needs, but if the child’s social needs are not met as well, the progress will be limited.  If this turns out to be the case, we will refer you to other programs.
  5. After your child’s visit, our committee will reconvene to accept or reject the application.  If your child’s application is rejected, we will refer you to other programs we feel will better meet your child’s needs.

Applications for admission are accepted beginning in March for the next school year.
