Recent Monday Memo Updates:
- Guidance Meeting for anyone interested in college / career planning. Guest speakers will share details, and resources for you to consider.
- Over the next couple of weeks, Juniors and Seniors will be working through the SC Pathways interest assessment that matches students up with possible career choices.
ALIVE @ 25
Our student assembly will feature a guest speaker @ 12:15pm. ALIVE @ 25 is an Alive-incredible student workshop for new drivers. The speaker will tell us more about safe driving, and wise choices. Many parents have asked to make this mandatory in our school’s future. This 2011-2012 course will be announced soon. For more details about the driving program you can click the link provided.

First Aid & CPR Certified!
We updated our training for AED’s, CPR, and First Aid here at GFS. We are thankful to our coaches and nurse for their time and hope that we never need to use this training. I applaud our Athletic Director for his leadership in seeing that each coach is well prepared for the season ahead of our student-athletes.

Glenforest Flea Market (Saturday, October 15, 2011)
This event is our major fundraising event and we need everyone’s help.
- Flea Market –Vendor tables available (see website for more information)
- School-sponsored yard sale (donation of items accepted – see information below)
- BBQ/Hot dog plates (all families received tickets to sell)
- Bake Sale
- Car Wash
If you have donations for our school wide yard sale we are able to accept them every school day from 8 until 4. You will see the large tractor trailer beside the gym– just place your items in the trailer or leave them beside it and we will do it for you. If you have large items call Coach Knopf at 513-1918 and he will arrange to pick them up. We appreciate your support.
The PTSO invites all parents, teachers and students to become involved. Visit the PTSO section of the website for information on ways you become involved. Complete or return a copy of the volunteer form to school.
2011-2012 School Supply List
Parents, we are thrilled for our upcoming Fall Calendar. We know School Shopping will be a big topic this next few weeks so please take a look at this list for your student’s needs. We encourage you to take advantage of the store deals and discounts in the local area happening right now. You don’t have to have all these items but much of what is listed will be used in the course of the Fall. Enjoy your last few weeks and we will plan to speak with you at Parents Orientation, Monday evening August 15 in the School Auditorium.

Supplies to be turned in to homeroom teacher:
AA Batteries (1 pack of 8 … especially for students who use writers thru the year.)
Band aids
Copy paper (1 ream)
Dry erase markers
Graphing paper for math (100 sheets)
Hand sanitizer (1 container)
Kleenex (3 boxes)
Notebook paper (2 packs 500 sheets- wide ruled)
Paper towels (1 roll)Pencils (36 count minimum)
1 3-ring Binder clear cover of any color
Orange 3 ring folder
4 x 6 index cards (1 pack)
*Optional: Stapler, roles of 3m desk tape, paper clips any size
Supplies the students can keep in their backpacks:
Student Agenda (If your student is in High School they have a choice to bring their own; Middle School students we can give basic 8×11 that is 50% of time acceptable but rarely liked; if in Elementary School students will be designated one with no complaints)
Computer flash drive (256 mb or larger)
Colored pencils (12 count)
Binder with dividers and pockets (at least 3 inches)
Sharpies (1 pack multi-color)
Scissors
Highlighters (1 pack)
Individual teachers may request other subject specific supplies. These will be given to you at the Parent- Teacher meeting on August 16.

Here at Glenforest this summer we hosted another year of autism camp with students from 8-18 years of age who are learning with Autism. Our campers had a blast.
